Description
This contemporary redware charger is a reproduction of an 1815 historic piece from the Reading Public Museum collection. Handcrafted in the traditional Pennsylvania German style, the earthenware plate features a yellow slip ground with sgraffito and slip-trailed decoration. The central design depicts a pot of tulips with three blossoms in brown and green glazes, flanked by the date 1815. The rim is coggled and decorated with a dashed slip border. The underside bears a circular Nolde Forest Pottery ink stamp dated 2010 and 4/22, along with handwritten text identifying the museum source and an Earth Day commemoration. It is signed in cursive by the potter. Diameter: 10 inches. The item is in excellent condition. There are no cracks, major chips, or restorations. A few minor, shallow nicks are visible on the slip of the coggled rim, which are characteristic of this handcrafted pottery style.
