Description
This set of fourteen porcelain dinner plates is produced in the Chinese Tree pattern by Mintons. The pieces were manufactured in England for the high-end retailer Burley and Co of Chicago. The Chinoiserie-style decoration features a central arrangement of multi-colored floral sprays, a blue vase, and ochre-colored fretwork. This motif is mirrored in the wide border, which is enclosed by a gold-toned scroll band and a gilded rim. The decoration technique involves transfer-printing with hand-applied enamel highlights and gilding. Each plate is marked on the underside with a purple circular stamp containing the text Manufactured for Chicago Burley and Co surrounding a crown and globe with the Mintons name. A separate rectangular mark reads Made in England. Diameter: 10 inches. Stack height: 3.75 The plates are in good condition. Visible wear and thinning to the gilded rims are present on several pieces, which is consistent with age and use. No chips, cracks, or repairs are noted.
