Lot 206:
Description
This large circular pendant is constructed from a translucent, pale-yellow resinous material. The face of the piece features an applied, three-dimensional central relief depicting a male and female figure in traditional folk attire, detailed with red, black, and white pigments. This central scene is enclosed by a decorative painted border of red flowers and green foliate scrolls. The pendant is fitted with a simple, polished yellow-metal bail for suspension. The metal appears to be a non-precious base metal as no hallmarks, maker’s marks, or purity stamps are visible on the bail or the body of the piece. The reverse highlights the translucent nature of the material. The style is indicative of mid-20th century folk art costume jewelry. Measurements: approximately 3 inches in diameter.
The pendant is in good condition. There is light surface wear and minor scuffing consistent with age. The decorative pigments are well-preserved and vibrant. The bail is secure and shows no signs of repair or significant oxidation.
