Lot 251:
Description
This collection of six pieces of designer costume jewelry is by American designer Kate Hines. The group includes one large articulated brooch, one geometric dress clip, a pair of dangle clip-on earrings, and two decorative stick pins. The pieces are constructed from mixed base metals with silver, gold, and bronze-toned finishes, featuring resin cabochons, faux pearls, and faceted glass beads. The articulated brooch is designed in three tiers with a diamond-shaped top set with a faux pearl, an open square center flanked by two square cream-colored resin cabochons, and a circular base with raised bosses. It features a straight pin with a rotating safety catch. The dress clip is a stylized fan form with radiating recessed lines and a hinged tension clip. The clip-on earrings consist of rayed discs with central square elements and four-strand dangles of metal and amber-toned glass beads, secured with hinged clip-on backs. The two stick pins feature rayed disc heads set with oval cabochons, one with a faux pearl and the other with a leopard-patterned composite. Each piece is marked on the reverse with an oval plaque reading KATE HINES followed by a copyright symbol. Brooch: 4.25 inches Dress Clip: 2.5 inches Earrings: 3.5 inches Stick Pins: 5.5 inches. All items show significant signs of age-related wear, including heavy tarnish and iridescent surface oxidation. Visible verdigris is present on the articulated joints of the earrings and at the junctions of the stick pin heads. The metal finishes exhibit overall patination and finish wear. The protective end clutches for both stick pins are missing.
