Lot 316:
Description
This two-piece clear pressed glass covered compote is a product of the Imperial Glass Corporation. The decorative lid is designed with concentric molded rings and is surmounted by a textured figural finial depicting a bird, likely a quail or partridge. The flared, footed base features a stippled or frosted-texture exterior surface, while the interior remains smooth. On the underside of the base, the piece bears the embossed Imperial Glass Corporation mark, featuring a capital letter I superimposed over a capital letter G. This mark was used by the company beginning in the mid-20th century. The item reflects the mid-century American tradition of figural “animal on nest” glassware.
Approximately 8.5 inches in diameter and 8 inches in total height.
The piece is in generally good condition. A close-up inspection reveals a small chip or internal fracture on the inner rim flange of the lid; this remains largely obscured when the lid is properly seated on the base. No other significant chips, cracks, or repairs are visible.
