Lot 379:
Description
This mid-20th-century cast plaster or composite sculpture depicts a pensive young woman with long, textured hair, her gaze cast downward as she grasps the scroll and neck of a stringed instrument. The work is executed in an expressive modernist style with a heavily worked surface, finished in a warm, yellowish-tan stain that mimics the appearance of aged wood or stone. The piece is hollow cast and stands on an integral, ruggedly modeled base. The lower reverse of the base features incised marks reading C ATTILI, BAYSHORE ART, and 1969. The underside is hollowed and fitted with several circular felt pads. Measurements: Approximately 10.5 inches X 18.5 inches tall. The sculpture is in good overall condition, exhibiting a consistent patina throughout. There are scattered minor surface scuffs and small chips along the base edges that reveal the lighter white material of the cast.
