Description
This handmade tied nursery quilt features the Nursery Rhymes pattern by Jack Dempsey Needle Art. The quilt face is constructed from twelve rectangular panels, each depicting a classic Mother Goose character through a combination of fabric appliqué and decorative embroidery. The illustrated rhymes include Hey Diddle Diddle, Tommy Tucker, Bobby Shafto, Mary and her lamb, King Cole, Wee Willie Winkie, Banbury Cross, Tom the Piper’s Son, Little Boy Blue, Mother Hubbard, Curly Locks, and Mother Goose. The panels are separated by narrow sashing in a small-scale floral print that matches the outer binding. The quilt is secured with yellow yarn ties. The reverse side is composed of a printed fabric featuring yellow teddy bears and multi-colored alphabet blocks on a white ground. A hand-embroidered inscription on the bottom right corner of the reverse reads May 1989. Materials include cotton or cotton-blend face and backing fabrics with polyester batting. Measurement: 38.5 inches x 48.5 inches. The quilt is in excellent vintage condition. The fabric and embroidery remain clean and vibrant with no significant stains, tears, or areas of heavy wear. Light wrinkling is present, consistent with folding and long-term storage.
