Description

A Chinese porcelain bowl of deep circular form featuring a lobed or scalloped rim and a short, tapered foot. The exterior is decorated in overglaze famille rose enamels with various flowering branches, including peonies, plum blossoms, and other floral sprays in a palette of pink, yellow, orange, and green. The interior is finished in a white glaze with a single centralized floral sprig mirroring the exterior design. The rim is detailed with a thin band of gilding. The base of the bowl bears a four-character mark in iron-red enamel arranged in two vertical columns reading 康熙年製 (Kangxi nian zhi), translated as Made in the reign of Kangxi. Based on the stylistic execution of the enamels and the lobed form, the mark is apocryphal, and the piece dates to the late 19th or early 20th century, during the late Qing Dynasty or Republic Period. Measurements: 8.5 inches X 3 inches tall The bowl is in good overall condition. There is minor wear to the gilding along the scalloped rim consistent with age and handling. The glaze shows a few small firing inclusions such as pitting and black specks, along with minor surface scratches from use. There is a small, shallow nick to the unglazed foot rim. No cracks or major chips are visible upon inspection.
