Description
This mid-20th century table screen features double-sided Suzhou silk embroidery on a transparent silk ground. The monochromatic composition depicts a traditional river landscape in the shui-mo style, featuring a fishing boat with a woven canopy and a line of six perched cormorants. The embroidery is executed in shades of black, charcoal, and silver with pale gold-toned highlights on the boat canopy. The silk panel is housed in a dark hardwood frame, likely rosewood or huali, which is set into a matching stand with openwork carved details. Frame Width: 10 inches Overall Height: 12.5 inches The silk embroidery is in very good condition with no visible pulls, staining, or fading. The hardwood frame and stand show minor surface wear consistent with age. One of the horizontal base support bars has a visible longitudinal crack with evidence of a prior glued repair. The structure remains stable.
