Description
This hand-carved wood sculpture by the artist T. Plummer depicts a Rastafarian male bust. The work is executed from a single block of wood with an integral base representing the neck and shoulders. The subject is portrayed with closed eyes and features a full, patterned beard and long, textured dreadlocks. The carving utilizes contrasting finishes, with a smooth, polished surface on the face and deeply incised, dark-patinated textures on the hair and beard. The underside of the base features incised lettering that reads RASTAFARIAN, T. PLUMMER, and JA, W.I., indicating the piece was produced in Jamaica, West Indies. Base width: 9.5 inches The sculpture is in good overall condition. There is minor surface wear and light scuffing consistent with age. A natural wood grain separation or checking is visible on the right side of the neck and shoulder area. The wood displays natural variations in color and grain throughout.
