Lot 531:
Description
This pair of decorative boat figurines is crafted from polished hardwood featuring a warm honey-to-brown tone. Each vessel carries a single kneeling figure holding a slender wooden spear. The figures are separate carvings attached to the boat decks using flathead metal screws. The sides of the boats are decorated with incised bands of foliate motifs, while the bow and stern sections feature geometric cross-hatched patterns. One boat is distinguished by a prow carved as a mythical naga head with inset red bead eyes. The other boat features a tall, serrated upright prow. The style and construction are characteristic of mid-to-late 20th-century Southeast Asian folk art, likely of Indonesian origin. Length: 12 inches The items are in good condition with light surface wear and minor scuffs on the edges and undersides consistent with age and display. The wood joinery remains stable. One figure exhibits slightly more color fading than the other. Metal screw heads are visible on the decks where the figures are attached.
