Description
A framed crewel embroidery piece featuring a stylized floral arrangement with a central blue dragonfly. The work is executed in wool thread on a light-colored linen or cotton-blend ground fabric. The composition includes various blossoms in shades of blue, green, and yellow, utilizing needlework techniques such as satin stitch, stem stitch, and French knots. The lower right corner is embroidered with the signature S. SWANN and the date 1971. The reverse of the fabric bears a partially visible stamp reading ERICA WILSON WOOL, identifying the design and materials as originating from an Erica Wilson needlework kit. The textile is hand-laced over a cardboard support for tension and is housed in a blue-painted wooden frame with a metallic inner lip and a wire hanger. Frame: 13 1/2 inches x 13 1/2 inches. The piece is in fair to good vintage condition. There is visible foxing and brown staining on the background fabric, most notably a circular spot in the lower-left corner and smaller scattered specks. The colors of the wool embroidery remain bright. The blue-painted wooden frame shows minor scuffing and paint loss along the edges.
