Description
This lot features a Victorian-style wooden picture frame with a multi-tiered construction. The frame consists of a polished wood outer border and a wide central section finished in a burl-effect veneer. This section is embellished with bone or light-wood marquetry inlays in a foliate and geometric pattern, featuring stylized arrows and dots. This specific inlay motif is characteristic of decorative elements found on Carrom-Archarena Company game boards from the late 19th to early 20th century. The interior of the frame is finished with a gilded, fluted liner. Contained within the frame is a rectangular wooden backboard with a circular cutout. The reverse side is constructed with a rough-hewn wooden backboard held by small nails and includes a twisted wire hanger. No manufacturer marks or signatures are present. Frame: 12 inches by 9.5 inches Internal board: 10.5 inches by 8 inches. The item shows age-appropriate wear throughout. The frame shows minor scuffs and light wear to the polished finish and burl veneer. The gilded inner liner shows minor surface dulling and small areas of gilding loss. The reverse components, including the backboard and wire hanger, are intact and functional.
