Description

This flattened oval earthenware vase, also known as a pillow vase, was produced by Ceramica Aljesa in Cadereyta Jimenez, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The vessel features a narrow rectangular opening at the top. The front of the vase is decorated with a stylized underwater scene featuring two pink fish swimming among aquatic plants and rocky seafloor formations. The decoration is executed using a raised-line technique with gold-toned luster outlines. The interior of the design elements contains a textured, multicolored glaze, while the background is finished in a light blue speckled or flecked glaze. The reverse side of the vase is finished solely in the blue speckled glaze. The unglazed base retains a silver and blue oval foil manufacturer label and an orange price sticker. Measurements: Approximately 9 inches wide X 8 inches tall The item is in good overall condition. There are yellowish-brown stains visible on the blue speckled surface of the reverse side. The unglazed base shows minor shelf wear, small surface abrasions, and scattered dark marks. No chips, cracks, or repairs are evident on the decorated surfaces.
