Description
A set of mass-market paperback volumes by J.R.R. Tolkien, published by Ballantine Books, a division of Random House. The collection includes The Hobbit and the three volumes of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King. This edition features an introduction by Peter Beagle. Internal copyright pages identify these as later printings from early 1978, with the Return of the King volume explicitly stated as the fifty-eighth printing from January 1978.

The gold foil slipcase exhibits surface rubbing, scratching, and moderate edge wear, with visible loss to the foil finish at the corners and along the open edges.
