Description

This volume is a first edition of Aunt Jane’s Nieces by Edith Van Dyne, a pseudonym for L. Frank Baum. Published in Chicago by The Reilly & Britton Co., the title and copyright pages are dated 1906. The book is bound in the publisher’s tan cloth with a decorative pictorial front cover featuring three women in an oval frame surrounded by purple floral motifs. A handwritten pencil inscription on the front free endpaper reads: Merry Christmas To Pauline From Pa. This title is the first installment in the Aunt Jane’s Nieces series.

7.5 inches x 5.25 inches

The cloth boards exhibit general soiling, staining, and shelf wear. There is fraying with loss of cloth at the spine ends and the corners are bumped and worn through to the boards. The spine is sunned and darkened. The edges of the text block are tanned and show significant foxing. Interior pages exhibit light age-toning and occasional minor spotting, though the text remains clear. The binding is slightly loosened but remains intact. The dust jacket is not present.
