Description
This pair of decorative porcelain collector plates is part of the Beauties of the Red Mansion (Hung Lou Meng) series, produced by Imperial Jingdezhen Porcelain in the late 20th century. The artwork is attributed to the master artisan Zhao Huimin and features characters from the classic Chinese novel Dream of the Red Chamber. The first plate, dated 1986, depicts the character Pao-chai (Precious Clasp) in an outdoor garden setting with a fan and butterflies. The second plate, dated 1987, depicts Yuan-chun in an interior scholar’s studio setting. Both plates are rendered in overglaze polychrome enamels with a blue geometric key-fret border accented by floral motifs and a gilt rim. The reverse of each plate features a factory mark consisting of a red vertical banner within a blue line-drawn dragon frame reading 皇家景德鎮磁器 (Huangjia Jingdezhen Ciqi), which translates to Imperial Jingdezhen Porcelain. The marks are genuine to the period of manufacture in the mid-1980s. Additional markings include the dates 一九八六 (1986) and 一九八七 (1987), series numbers 牛-一六四四 and 庚-四三○, and the printed name of the China National Arts and Crafts Import and Export Corporation. This lot includes the two original gold-toned padded presentation boxes, Certificates of Authenticity, and English-language informational leaflets detailing the characters and history of the porcelain works.

The porcelain plates are in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The enamel decoration and gilt highlights remain vibrant and intact. The original presentation boxes and paper documentation show minor shelf wear and age-related yellowing consistent with careful storage.
