Description
This work is a reproduction of Leonardo da Vinci’s mural masterpiece, The Last Supper. Executed in oil or gouache on board or paper, the painting is presented under glass within a vintage ornate wooden frame. The composition faithfully replicates the thirteen figures and architectural setting of the original work, depicting the moment Jesus Christ announces that one of his disciples will betray him. The frame features a carved zigzag border and a polychrome finish in tones of gold, dark green, and sienna. The reverse of the piece is sealed with paper and includes a taped envelope containing two typed pages titled THE LAST SUPPER – LEONARDO DE VINCI, which provide a narrative key to the figures and symbolism. An attached fragment of a vintage Sal Hepatica advertisement bears a handwritten inscription stating: Handpainted – at Least 60 years ago Given to Vannie + Chas from Catherine Ross estate in Dec 1971.

The frame shows significant age-related wear, including visible chipping, surface loss to the polychrome finish, and gesso cracking. The paper backing on the reverse is brittle, discolored, and torn in several areas. The adhesive tape securing the documentation has yellowed and is peeling. The painted surface appears stable under the glass, with minor age-toning to the support material.
