An 11-piece collection of vintage earthenware serveware in the Indian Summer pattern, manufactured by Franciscan (Gladding, McBean & Co.) in Los Angeles, California. TThe bases of the ceramic pieces bear the circular backstamp: INDIAN SUMMER / GLADDING, MCBEAN & CO. / Franciscan / FAMILY CHINA / MADE IN U.S.A. The base of the pepper mill is stamped: LOS ANGELES, CALIF / PAT. APPLIED FOR.
Large rectangular platter: 12.5 inches length
Divided rectangular serving dishes: 11.5 inches length
Large rectangular serving platter: 11.5 inches length
Round lidded casserole dish: 8 inches diameter
Open rectangular serving dish: 9 inches length
Small rectangular tray: 7 inches length
Tall salt shaker and pepper mill: 6 inches height
Small all-ceramic salt and pepper shakers: 3.5 inches height.
The ceramic components appear to be in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs. The metal components on the tall salt shaker and the pepper mill show significant signs of age and wear, including pitting, surface corrosion, and green oxidation (verdigris) on the shaker top. The plating on the metal bases is also showing wear.
