Description
A set of fine china dinnerware by Franciscan China in the Carmel pattern, manufactured by Gladding, McBean and Co. in California. The pieces feature a cream-colored porcelain body decorated with a central transfer-printed floral spray of pink tulips and gray-green foliage. Each piece is finished with a platinum-colored trim along the rims and highlights on the handles of the serving vessels. The collection includes dinner plates, bread and butter plates, an oval serving platter, an oval open vegetable bowl, a covered sugar bowl, and a creamer. The underside of the pieces bears the factory backstamp featuring a stylized California mission building inside an oval, with Franciscan China inscribed within. Below the oval is the text MADE IN CALIFORNIA U.S.A. and GLADDING, McBEAN and CO., with the pattern name CARMEL printed in purple.
12 Dinner plates: 10.5 inches diameter
11 Bread and butter plates: 6.25 inches diameter
Oval serving platter: 15.25 inches length
Oval vegetable bowl: 10.75 inches length
Sugar bowl with lid: 3.75 inches height.
Condition report:
The set is in very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or visible repairs. The platinum trim shows good preservation throughout the set. Minor surface scratches or shelf wear consistent with age and use may be present upon close inspection.
