Description

Stand is not included. This garment is a Japanese bridal uchikake, a highly formal outer kimono designed to be worn open over a wedding ensemble. It is constructed from a vibrant red silk satin ground and features elaborate hand embroidery known as shishu. The decorative motifs include multiple stylized phoenixes (ho-o) and scrolling chrysanthemum (kiku) blooms. The needlework utilizes couched metallic gold and silver threads alongside white silk threads to create high-relief textures throughout the garment. The kimono is finished with the traditional heavily padded lower hem, known as a fuki, and is fully lined in matching red silk. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible. A modern square white velcro patch has been sewn to the interior collar area.

Sleeve-to-sleeve width: approximately 48 – 49 inches.

Overall good vintage condition with vibrant colors and intact embroidery. Several small, dark circular spots are visible on the red silk at the upper shoulder area. There are loose white threads present near the interior collar and tie-points. A modern velcro patch has been added to the interior collar for display or wear. Minor creasing is present throughout, consistent with folding and storage.
