Description
This is a pair of vintage Japanese Satsuma porcelain decorative miniature high-heeled shoes or booties. The pieces feature hand-painted overglaze enamels, extensive moriage raised enamel beading, and gilding. The top of the square contains the characters for Dai Nippon (Great Japan). The center contains the Shimazu clan crest (a cross within a circle). The bottom of the mark features the characters for the maker, Gyokuzan.
Height: 3.5 inches
Length: 4.5 inches.
The shoes are in good vintage condition. Fine, uniform age-related crazing is visible throughout the glaze. There is minor rubbing and wear to the gold gilding on the high points, specifically along the edges and on the decorative bows. No visible chips, cracks, or professional repairs are evident.
