Description
This contemporary studio pottery pitcher is crafted from stoneware with a buff-colored, granular clay body. The vessel features a highly stylized, organic, and asymmetrical form. It is designed with a tapered body showing horizontal ribbing from the throwing process. A slender neck terminates in a wide, flared rim embellished with applied clay beads. A single pulled handle connects the rim to the shoulder, while a decorative scrolled protrusion rises from the body opposite the handle. The piece is finished with a multi-layered glaze; a dark brown base is overlaid on the neck and shoulder with a reactive drip glaze in varying shades of cobalt blue, violet, and pale celadon green. The entire glazed surface exhibits an intentional heavy crazing or crackle effect. Small, applied circular clay beads are positioned around the base of the neck and the rim. The underside of the unglazed base features an incised artist’s mark or monogram that is present but not clearly legible. There is residue from a former adhesive label near the edge of the base.

Condition report:
There is a significant area of glaze loss and an irregular shallow chip at the base, which appears to be a kiln pull from the firing process. Overall fine crazing is present throughout the glazed areas, consistent with the glaze type. No other apparent cracks or professional repairs were noted.
