Lot 202:
Description
This set of six hearthware items is constructed from hand-hammered sheet brass and hand-forged wrought iron. The collection includes a deep, round brass basin featuring a rolled rim and two hand-forged brass loop handles secured with copper rivets. The accompanying utensils consist of a large skimmer with a perforated bowl, two graduated ladles, a spatula or turner, and a decorative small dipper. Each utensil is joined to a wrought iron handle using traditional copper rivets. The iron handles are hand-forged with flattened sections and hooked terminals, characteristic of late 18th to mid-19th-century domestic metalware. The small decorative dipper features a twisted handle and a bowl containing a central ribbed, domed element.
Basin diameter: 9.5 inches
Utensils measure approximately 10-17 inches.
The metalwork exhibits an aged patina consistent with historical use and age. The wrought iron handles show significant surface oxidation and pitting throughout. The brass components display surface scratches, minor indentations, and areas of tarnish. Notable oxidation and verdigris are present on the interior bottom of the basin.
