Description
This group consists of eight porcelain wall plaques produced by Villeroy and Boch in West Germany. These items, identified as VilboCards and CeramCards, feature naive folk art illustrations by several different artists. The collection includes three scenes by Gerard Laplau titled Midnight Mass (A 61/1-82), Christening Celebration (A 13/1-82), and Wedding Procession (A 30/1-82). Two scenes by Monika Gronshagen depict a winter sledge ride and a girl tending geese. A spring landscape with a couple and a peacock is attributed to Wilm Langhammer and dated 1982. A cornfield scene with poppies is credited to Annel Fischer. A minimalist landscape with bare trees is credited to Monique Bizet. Each piece features a decorated porcelain front adhered to a cardstock backing equipped with an integrated metal or string hanging loop. The reverse of each plaque contains printed manufacturer marks, artist names, and scene titles in German, English, and French. Printed signatures are visible on the front of several plaques.
Plaques are 4″x 6″.
The porcelain surfaces are in excellent condition with no visible chips, cracks, or fading to the printed scenes. The cardstock backings exhibit signs of age and previous handling, including yellowing, foxing, and adhesive residue or paper loss from previous mounting. The integrated hanging loops remain mostly intact.
