Description
This cast bronze sculpture, titled A Master of His Craft, is the work of American artist George Kosanovich. Dated 1972, the piece belongs to a limited edition, numbered 25/50. The sculpture portrays a seated mountain man in the Western realist style, characterized by highly textured surfaces and intricate detail. The figure is depicted with a full beard and is dressed in fringed buckskin attire, moccasins, and a fur cap adorned with several feathers. He sits upon a naturalistic base cast to resemble a tree stump and rocky ground. The work features two removable bronze components: a long flintlock rifle and a pipe-axe. The handle of the axe is incised with the text ZACHARIAH TAYLOR 1827. The front of the integral bronze base is inscribed with the title A MASTER of his CRAFT in uppercase and cursive lettering. On the side of the base, the sculpture bears the incised signature George, accompanied by a copyright symbol and the date 1972. The edition number 25/50 is located near the signature. The bronze has a dark brown patina and is mounted on a shaped wooden plinth with a light-colored finish.

The sculpture is in good overall condition. The dark brown patina is well-preserved across the figure and accessories. Localized areas of green oxidation (verdigris) are visible on the bronze base near the signature and lower edges. The removable rifle and pipe-axe are present and intact. The wooden plinth shows some minor scuffing and finish wear, particularly around the lower edge.
