Lot 180:
Description
A mid-century modern shoe display stand or decorative shoe rest, likely intended for retail shop display. The piece is cast from a copper alloy, presumably brass or bronze, and features a biomorphic, organic form characteristic of mid-20th-century design. It is composed of a rectangular stepped base supporting two fluid, curving legs that intersect and branch out to hold a contoured platform shaped like a shoe sole. The upper surfaces are finished with a soft polish, while the underside of the base and the support platform retain a rough, sand-cast texture. There is a small circular aperture in the center of the base. No manufacturer marks or signatures are present on the object.
Height: Approximately 14.5 inches.
The item shows characteristic signs of age and use. There is heavy green verdigris and oxidation concentrated in the base recesses and the undersides of the top rest. The polished surfaces exhibit natural tarnishing, surface scuffs, and minor pitting. The structural integrity remains sound.
