Description

A North African curved short sword or large dagger, likely originating from the Saharan or Maghreb region. The item features a single-edged steel blade that tapers to a sharp point. The blade is embellished with hand-stamped geometric motifs along the midsection, including rows of small concentric circles and undulating wave patterns. The hilt is crafted from dark hardwood with a multi-sectional bulbous grip, finished with a dark resinous coating. It terminates in a thick, leather-wrapped suspension loop at the pommel. The accompanying scabbard is constructed with a tooled leather exterior over a wood core. The leather surface is heavily embossed with traditional geometric designs, including punched circles, linear hatching, and ornamental bands. A prominent hand-stitched seam is visible along the reverse side of the scabbard.

Total length: Approximately 22 inches
Blade length: Approximately 15.5 inches.

The steel blade exhibits age-related surface oxidation, scattered rust spots, and light pitting throughout. The hilt is structurally sound but shows surface wear, minor loss of finish, and craquelure consistent with age. The leather scabbard shows general wear, scuffing, and darkening from handling, while the stitching remains largely intact.
