Description
A circular decorative wall plaque featuring a high-relief representation of the Aztec Sun Stone, also known as the Aztec Calendar or Piedra del Sol. The piece is constructed from a cast composition material, likely plaster, and is finished with hand-applied polychrome paint in a vibrant palette of red, green, blue, yellow, and orange against a cream ground. The central relief depicts the solar deity Tonatiuh with tongue extended, surrounded by concentric bands containing various cosmological symbols and day signs. The entire front surface is finished with a glossy clear coat. The reverse is unfinished and includes an integrated metal wire loop for wall hanging. The back bears a handwritten inscription in blue ink: Christmas 1971 / ’77 / Gift to Alan Smith / Irwin Gordon / Bennett Lake / Argentine Mich.

This item is in good vintage condition. There are minor areas of paint loss and small chips to the cast material along the high-relief edges and the outer rim. The reverse shows typical shelf wear and light surface marks on the white finish. No structural cracks or major repairs are noted.
