Description
Charles Sprague Pearce (American, 1851-1914). Shepherdess. 1890. This photogravure plate was originally published in Recent Ideals of American Art by George William Sheldon (D. Appleton and Company, New York, 1890). An embossed plate mark is visible surrounding the image. The lower left of the image is inscribed CHARLES SPRAGUE PEARCE – AUVERS-SUR-OISE. The verso of the matting features a descriptive label from Vintage Gravures and a contemporary certificate of authenticity dated 11-13-16.
Mat: 18 x 12 inches.
The print is in excellent condition, showing no significant foxing, toning, or creases. The impression is sharp with strong tonal contrast. The mat and protective sleeve are in new condition.
