Description
This group of art publications comprises several softcover portfolios from the Art Treasures of the World series, published in the early 1950s by Harry N. Abrams, Inc., New York. The collection includes individual volumes dedicated to Amedeo Modigliani (1953) with text by Jacques Lipchitz, Pablo Picasso: Blue and Rose Periods (1954) with text by William S. Lieberman, Francisco Jose de Goya y Lucientes (1954) with text by Frederick S. Wight, and Vincent van Gogh (1952) with text by Meyer Schapiro. Each large-format folio volume contains introductory biographical and critical text followed by sixteen tipped-in or loose color plates. The title and copyright pages specify the publisher as Harry N. Abrams, Incorporated, located at 100 Sixth Avenue, New York. The portfolios are constructed with interior flaps designed to hold the plates and text booklets.

The volumes exhibit condition features consistent with age and materials. There is visible toning and yellowing to the paper throughout, most prominent at the edges and spine. Wrappers show shelf wear, including rubbing to the edges and light soiling. Interior portfolio flaps have minor creasing and small closed tears at the points of articulation. The color plates appear generally well-preserved. No owner signatures or library markings are visible. Some of the cellophane is torn/missing.
