Description

This collection consists of multiple oversized art portfolios from the Art Treasures of the World series, published by Harry N. Abrams, Inc., New York. The group includes monographs for Edgar-Hilaire-Germain Degas (text by Daniel Catton Rich), Maurice Utrillo (text by Alfred Werner), Pablo Picasso: Blue and Rose Periods (text by William S. Lieberman), and Pieter Bruegel the Elder (text by Wolfgang Stechow). Each folio-sized softcover portfolio is designed with an inner pocket holding supplementary art education pamphlets, including titles such as How to Appreciate Art: On Truth to Nature, How to Appreciate Art: The Pleasures of Painting, Forgers and Forgeries by W. G. Constable, and Religion and Art by Richard Bernheimer. The volumes feature introductory text followed by tipped-in full-color plates; the covers specify that each portfolio contains sixteen prints. The Picasso and Bruegel volumes carry a copyright date of 1954.
Height: 14.75 inches
Width: 11.5 inches.
The portfolios exhibit moderate shelf wear consistent with age and use. Observable defects include bumping and minor fraying at the corners, light toning and yellowing to the paper covers, and localized creasing along the edges. The interior contents and tipped-in color plates remain bright and well-preserved. Some supplementary pamphlets show mild handling wear. Some of the cellophane is torn/missing.
