Description
A set of two Doulton Burslem earthenware vessels consisting of one bottle-shaped vase and one handled ewer with a flared spout. The pieces are decorated using the Doulton and Slater Patent technique, which involves impressing real lace into the wet clay to create a distinct textured surface. The undersides bear various markings including the printed black U.S. PATENT 314,002 mark and a blue Doulton Burslem crown stamp with an interlocking HB monogram for Henry Barnard. Impressed marks include DOULTON & SLATERS PATENT, numerals 2807, and a date code interpreted as 6-84. A hand-painted B 20 mark is also present.
Ewer height: 10.5 inches
Vase height: 8.25 inches.
Both items are in good antique condition. Fine, age-appropriate crazing is visible in the glaze on the undersides. There is minor rubbing and wear to the gilding, particularly on the raised bird motifs and along the rims and handle edges. The interior mouth of the ewer shows some minor surface grime and dark spotting. No chips, cracks, or professional restorations are visible under standard inspection.
