Description
A large decorative cast iron door knocker featuring a mythological foliate face, commonly identified as a Green Man or North Wind mascaron. The design includes an expressive face with scrolling horn-like elements at the top and a stylized leaf-textured beard. The heavy striking ring is ornamented with a smaller, coordinating face at the bottom center. The piece displays a coarse texture characteristic of traditional sand-casting. No manufacturer marks, model numbers, or foundry stamps are present on the front or reverse.
Height: 18.5 inches
Width: 9 inches.
The item presents in good condition with a weathered, dark brown patina and significant surface oxidation consistent with outdoor exposure. There are visible remnants of a black finish in the recessed portions of the casting. The striker ring is secured with a modern Phillips head screw, representing a non-period repair or assembly. The piece is complete with two mounting holes at the top and bottom.
