Lot 238:
Description
A pair of large seated figurative sculptures, one male and one female, created in a West African style resembling casting traditions from Nigeria or Cameroon. The surfaces of both pieces show visible casting seams and pitting characteristic of the lost-wax process. Wooden crate not included.
Height: Approximately 19 to 20 inches.
Both figures exhibit a dark, aged patina with areas of verdigris oxidation concentrated in the recessed details of the hair, beard, and scepters. Surface wear and scratches are present throughout, with the underlying brighter metal exposed on protruding areas such as the noses, knees, and shoulders. General surface pitting and casting imperfections are consistent with the manufacturing technique. The figures appear structurally sound with no visible breaks or repairs.
