Description
This Japanese cylindrical porcelain vase features a high-gloss black glaze and a central oval medallion executed in the Art of Chokin style. The medallion depicts a pair of peacocks among floral blossoms, including chrysanthemums, rendered in gilded gold and silver metal engraving with subtle polychrome accents. The rim and base are finished with gold-toned bands. A foil sticker near the base reads 24KT GOLD. The underside of the base features a printed gold-toned inscription stating: THE ART OF CHOKIN / Metal engravings from Japan / are created by the ancient / art of Chokin. Gilded with / gold and silver, the engravings / were originally created to / decorate the armament of / the SAMURAI warriors. / Made in Japan.
