Description
This lot consists of three mid-century American literary editions, all featuring the provenance of owner R. C. Fellows via bookplates and inscriptions. The first volume is Sinclair Lewis, Gideon Planish, published by The World Publishing Company (Forum Books Edition) in January 1944. This is a first printing of this edition, published by arrangement with Random House. It is an octavo volume in publisher cloth with a pictorial dust jacket. The second volume is S. J. Perelman, Crazy Like a Fox, published by Garden City Publishing Company as a reprint edition in 1945. It includes a pictorial dust jacket with artwork by McKnight Kauffer and contains the R. C. Fellows bookplate dated 9-4-45. The third volume is The Best American Short Stories 1943, edited by Martha Foley, published by The World Publishing Company (Forum Books Edition) in October 1944. This is a first printing of this edition. The volume is bound in blue cloth with stamped lettering on the spine.

All three volumes show age-appropriate wear. The dust jackets for Gideon Planish and Crazy Like a Fox exhibit significant chipping, edge wear, and small tears, particularly at the spine ends and corners. The cloth bindings show light shelf wear and sunning to the spines, most notably on the Martha Foley volume which lacks a dust jacket. Interior pages across all three books are moderately toned due to mid-1940s paper quality but remain brittle-free and legible.
