Description
This lot consists of a large blue and white ceramic wall charger and a coordinating hand-painted ornament. The earthenware charger by Royal Sphinx Maastricht features a scalloped edge and a central pastoral landscape scene. The scene, executed in cobalt blue transfer print, depicts a traditional Dutch landscape with a farmhouse, a canal featuring two figures in a boat, grazing cattle, and windmills in the background. The scene is signed F. Sonneville in the lower foreground. The reverse of the plate bears the blue printed mark of Royal Sphinx Maastricht featuring a sphinx, as well as the text Made in Holland and a hand-written Delfts mark. The ceramic ornament is teardrop-shaped and features hand-painted stylized floral and geometric bands in cobalt blue. The lower portion of the ornament is inscribed with HANDGESCHILDERD and DELFT HOLLAND, accompanied by a maker’s mark. It is fitted with a gold-toned metal cap.

Both items appear to be in very good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or signs of repair. The charger displays typical kiln stilt marks on the reverse from the manufacturing process.
