Description
This lot consists of two Russian Orthodox cast brass icons featuring polychrome enamel work, dating to the 19th century. The larger rectangular icon depicts the Mother of God, Joy of All Who Sorrow (Vsekh Skorbyashchikh Radost). The central composition shows the Virgin standing among the suffering, bordered by twenty circular medallions containing various saints. The piece is decorated with vibrant cloisonne style enamel in shades of cobalt blue, white, light blue, and green. It features a Cyrillic inscription at the top: ОБРАЗ ПРЕСВЯТЫЯ БОГОРОДИЦЫ ВСЕХ СКОРБЯЩИХ РАДОСТЬ (Obraz Presvyatyya Bogoroditsy Vsekh Skorbyashchikh Radost). The second item is a small brass folding triptych (skladen) depicting the Deesis. The central panel depicts Christ Pantocrator, flanked by the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist in attitudes of prayer. The triptych retains traces of blue, yellow, and orange enamel and is fitted with two suspension loops at the top.

Triptych (unfolded): 1.25 inches x 3.25 inches.
Both icons show age-appropriate wear, including significant loss to the original gilding and a dark patina with localized green copper oxidation. The enamel on the larger icon exhibits minor pitting and scattered small losses. The triptych shows heavy surface wear and rubbing, particularly to the relief details and the mark on the reverse. The hinges on the triptych remain functional.
