Description
This large artist doll was produced by SAM (Studio of American Masters) in 1982. The doll features an entire bisque porcelain body, head, arms, hands, and legs. The face is detailed with stationary dark inset eyes, painted eyelashes and eyebrows, and an open mouth revealing two inset upper teeth. The hair consists of a synthetic strawberry-blonde wig styled in long, tight ringlets. On the back of the neck, the piece is marked with the handwritten black ink inscription BUNNYS, for Bunny Siegling, and # 23. Below this, the porcelain is impressed with the letters SAM with TM above a copyright symbol and the year 1982. The doll is dressed in an elaborate formal ensemble consisting of a cream-colored satin base with a white floral lace overlay. The bodice, cuffs, and waistline are decorated with faux-pearl beadwork. Undergarments include a white synthetic satin slip and a bottom white cotton-blend slip. The doll wears white patent-style shoes and knit socks with floral embroidery. Based on the construction and fit, the clothing appears original to the doll.

The doll is in good overall condition with some visible signs of wear and age. The porcelain legs and back torso show minor scuff marks and surface abrasions. The clothing shows a small tear in the lace at the bottom hem and scattered light brown age spots on the innermost cotton slip. Some loose beading is held in place with yellow adhesive tape. The legs are currently protected by bubble wrap secured with duct tape.
