Description
A collection of five taxidermy insect specimens, including various moths and butterflies, individually housed in black-finished Riker-style shadow box frames. The insects are mounted on white fibrous batting under glass covers. The group features species from the Saturniidae and Papilionidae families. One specimen is a large moth with prominent eyespots on the hindwings featuring yellow centers and black/blue-grey rings, characteristic of the genus Automeris. A second moth specimen exhibits dark brown forewings and bright orange hindwings with large, concentric black and white eyespots, resembling an Automeris io. A swallowtail butterfly is included, featuring black and white veining on the forewings and dark hindwings with red and cream patches and distinct tails. Another moth specimen is light tan in color with small translucent discal spots on each wing, characteristic of the genus Antheraea. The final specimen is a dark chocolate-brown butterfly with an angular wing profile and small hindwing tails. No maker’s marks or species labels are present on the mounts.

Smaller Frames: 4.25 inches x 3.25 inches.
The collection displays varying conditions. Three specimens are in stable condition with minor surface dust and light fading. Two specimens exhibit significant structural deterioration, including fraying and loss to the wing margins and loss of scales/fur on the bodies. The frames show light wear consistent with handling.
