Description
This large vintage African American doll is constructed with a composition head, forearms, and lower legs attached to a cream-colored stuffed cloth torso. The doll features a black wavy hair wig that is secured to the composition scalp with staples. The face is detailed with brown sleep eyes that have intact eyelashes, painted eyebrows and lower lashes, and a red open mouth with two molded upper teeth and a felt interior. The doll is dressed in a period-style two-piece outfit consisting of a white bodice with lace trim, puffed sleeves, and embroidered floral and heart motifs, joined to a gathered light pink skirt. Matching white cloth bloomers are present. No maker marks, stamps, or incised characters are visible on the back of the neck or torso.

The doll is in fair to poor vintage condition with significant age-related deterioration. There is extensive and deep crazing across all composition surfaces, including the face, scalp, arms, and legs. Structural cracking is visible on both legs and at the back of the neck. Multiple large areas of the brown finish have flaked away, most notably on the legs, revealing the white base material underneath. The cloth torso shows overall surface soiling and minor discoloration consistent with age.
