Description
This is a mid-century modern Finnish Rya rug, known as a Ryijy, featuring an abstract geometric design identified as the Nassakka pattern. The pattern was designed by Terttu Tomero for OY Neovius, a prominent Finnish textile company established in 1888. The design is characterized by interlocking and concentric rectangular shapes in a vibrant color scheme of sun yellow, bright orange, deep mustard, and olive green. It is constructed with a long, shaggy wool pile on a sturdy, multi-colored woven grid backing. A label affixed to the reverse corner is inscribed with the text: Ryijy Nassakka, Desing: Terttu Tomero, OY Neovius Finland.
Measurement: 50″ x 61″ x 1.5″ pile.
The rug is in excellent vintage condition. The wool pile remains thick and plush throughout. The colors are bright and saturated. The reverse backing is clean and intact, showing no signs of dry rot or previous repairs. There is some minor pinkish discoloration visible on the reverse backing, which may be consistent with age or original yarn variations.
