Description
This hand-colored etching and drypoint by French artist Jean Hardy depicts an elegant woman in Art Deco attire seated in a garden landscape while playing a guitar. The subject is rendered with fine line work and rich drypoint burr, particularly in the dark areas of the hair and surrounding foliage. The work is an artist proof, inscribed Epreuve d’artiste in pencil in the lower left margin. It is titled La cigale at the bottom center and signed J. Hardy in pencil at the lower right.
Overall frame: 21 x 27 inches.
The print is in good overall condition. The paper shows light, uniform toning consistent with age. There is no evidence of foxing, moisture damage, or significant plate wear. The hand-coloring remains clear and well-preserved. The frame and matting are in good condition with minor surface wear to the frame edges.
