Description
This decorative porcelain cabinet plate features a hand painted central vignette and an ornate gilded border. The wide cobalt blue rim is embellished with intricate gold scrolling foliate patterns, floral motifs, and fleur-de-lis style accents. The central circular scene depicts the classical mythological subject of Ajax and Cassandra. The underside of the plate features an underglaze blue beehive or shield mark containing three horizontal bars. Additional hand painted marks in reddish-brown include the number 70 and the pattern or decorator number 4824.
Diameter: 10 inches.
The plate is in good overall condition with minor age-appropriate wear to the gilded decoration. A fine hairline crack or craze line is visible on the front, extending through the lower part of the central painted scene near the base of the stone altar. There is minor shelf wear to the underside of the foot ring and a few small firing specks on the reverse.
