Description

This pair of decorative ceramic beer steins was manufactured in Japan and features high-relief Alpine-themed tavern and village scenes. The smaller stein is constructed with a dark blue pebbled background and high-relief figures of a man playing an accordion and a woman in traditional Bavarian attire, opposite a mountain cottage scene. It features a faux-wood tree trunk handle. The base of the smaller stein is embossed with Made in Japan, stamped with the numbers 55-058, and retains a red oval foil sticker for D-Ann Imports. The larger stein is designed with a buff-colored body and depicts a village family alongside a man playing a lute. The background illustrates mountains and trees, and the body includes scrolls with German text reading bundlied and froh Gemüt. This stein features a gnarled, tree-branch style handle and retains a rectangular gold foil sticker on the base, though the text is no longer legible. Both steins are open-top and lack lids.

Small Stein Height: 5.5 inches
Large Stein Height: 7.5 inches.

Both steins exhibit extensive, fine all-over crazing in the glaze, consistent with age and material. The smaller stein has a visible chip on the exterior edge of the upper rim. Both pieces show shelf wear and minor darkening to the unglazed foot rims.
