Description
This lot features an antique apothecary or analytical beam balance scale constructed of brass and mounted on a mahogany-finished wooden base. The central cylindrical brass pillar is equipped with a lever-operated arrestment mechanism at the base designed to raise and lower the beam. The beam features a vertical needle pointer that aligns with a small graduated brass scale at the top of the pillar. Two circular brass pans are suspended from the beam ends. The rectangular wooden plinth base includes a single sliding drawer with a small turned knob for storage. The scale is accompanied by an assortment of compounding accessories and weights. Included are a set of square brass weights in a labeled box reading ONE SET BRASS DRAM Scruple and Grain WEIGHTS, with individual weights marked 1 DRAM and 2 DRAM. Also included is a set of aluminum wire weights in a labeled box reading ONE SET WIRE ALUMINUM GRAIN WEIGHTS. 5 to 1/2 Grain. A yellow wooden storage block contains a set of brass knob weights marked grm and several flat milligram weights marked 500 mg, 100 mg, and 50 mg. Additional tools include two pairs of tweezers, two small glass vials, a small brass bucket with a wire handle, and two small metal scoops.

The brass components exhibit a natural aged patina with minor surface wear and oxidation consistent with age and use. The wooden base shows light scuffing and finish wear.
