Description
An assortment of professionally prepared natural history specimens featuring various butterflies and moths from the order Lepidoptera, each housed in an individual Riker mount display case. The collection includes a large Saturniid moth with tawny-brown wings and prominent yellow and black eyespots on the hindwings. One mount features a large swallowtail butterfly with dark brown wings, white patches, and reddish-orange spots along the scalloped edges of the hindwings. Another specimen is an Imperial moth displaying yellow wings with purplish-brown mottled markings. A fourth frame contains an eyed silkmoth with tan wings and large circular eyespots. The final mount displays small butterflies from the genus Diaethria, illustrating both the iridescent dorsal side and the characteristic 88 pattern on the ventral side. Each specimen is secured by compression against a white batting background within a black textured cardboard frame and glass panel.
Largest mount: Approximately 8.25 inches x 6.5 inches
Smaller mounts: Range from approximately 5 inches x 4 inches to 6 inches x 5 inches.
The collection is in good vintage condition. Minor fragility is evident in the form of slight fraying and small chips to wing edges on several specimens. Moth bodies show typical compression associated with Riker mounting. The frames and glass are intact with minor surface wear.
